"See No Evil" by Tom Verlaine as recorded by Television on Marquee Moon The song is in G blues (G A Bb B C D E F), basically, but there are a fair number of chromatic notes. Verse riff: ("What I want, I want now...") play 3X |-------------------------|------------------------------- |--------0-1p0h1p0-----0--|--3--3--3--5b6----------------- |---0-2-------------2-----|--3--3--3--5b6----------------- |-------------------------|------------------------------- |-------------------------|------------------------------- |-------------------------|------------------------------- | | |---3--3-------------------------------------------------- |---3--3-------------------------------------------------- |---4--4-------------------------------------------------- |---5--5---...-------------------------------------------- |---5--5-------------------------------------------------- |---3--3-------------------------------------------------- Chorus riff: ("I am the standard...") play 6X |---------3---------3-----|--------3--------3------------- |-------0---------0-------|------5--------5--------------- |-----5---------5---------|----5--------5----------------- |---0---------0-----------|--0--------0------------------- |-------------------------|------------------------------- |-------------------------|------------------------------- I'm not 100% sure what both guitars are doing here, but I think they might be playing unisons. I can't remember exactly. The tag between the chorus and the verse is one guitar: |-------------------------|-------------- |---5--5------------------|-------------- |---5--5--5-5-4-4-3-3-2-2-|-------------- |---5--5--5-5-4-4-3-3-2-2-|--6-6-2-2-3-4- ... back to the verse |---3--3--3-3-2-2-1-1-0-0-|--6-6-2-2-3-4- |-------------------------|--4-4-0-0-1-2- The solo is in G major and is classic Verlaine, built off scalar runs. It starts on the 10th fret G on the 5 string. I don't recall the structure of the song exactly, so you'll have to count things out on your own, but the parts are basically right. I'll check when I get home. If you can write up the lyrics, I'd be much obliged. I also know "Marquee Moon" (lyrics and most parts), "Little Johnny Jewel" (basic structure), "Friction" (choice licks), and "Knocking on Heaven's Door" (which is, of course, a Dylan cover, but is one of the best recorded versions of the song I've ever heard and has some intensely emotional lead guitar). I figured out some parts from one of the songs on "Warm and Cool" as well, but I don't recall the name. There is a lot of Buzzcocks stuff available on OLGA. I couldn't tell you about either The Pixies or The Fall. -- J. Verkuilen jayv@uiuc.edu "I had a glimpse of something.... The top of my head blew off." --Robert Fripp, 1974
